hi.
In first place sorry my english is poor xd.
When i start the install of the open suse linux 11.2 load the kernel but later my display is in black, i think that is my graphic card becouse in other linux only load linux without graphic mode, what i have to do for install open suse?, i can download a driver with the installer or something like?
bye and thanks for the help.
It depends on when you obtain the black display. If you encounter the black display immediately after you start the installation, then try a SAFE SETTING/FAIL SAFE Install or alternatively press F3 and try a VESA or TEXT install.
If you encounter the black display at the very end of the install at the final reboot, then instead read the nvidia section in this guide and follow its guidance: openSUSE Graphic Card Practical Theory Guide for Users - openSUSE Forums to apply a driver setting. After that, you can either restart to test, or as a regular user (not as root) type “startx” to test.
i make that and don´t work, and i probe other graphic card and don´t work i think now that isn´t the graphic card, why the black display?
1 year ago i install ubuntu an work but now only work fedora and i hate fedora. Please help me i love linux and i want intall it.
bye and thanks
That’s interesting. The reason why it works under Fedora, it that Fedora loads the ‘nouveau’ driver by default when it detects a Nvidia card. It uses also a kernel option ‘modeset/nomodeset’, which is supposed to allow switching smoothly between console and graphic mode.
The reason why you have trouble in openSUSE is probably related to the nv driver not getting your gfx card correctly, however geforce 8600 gt should be supported (according to the models listed in /var/log/Xorg.0.log).
ok but i use other graphic card ati and don´t work i think now that isn´t the graphic card.
i use a lot things for the linux work but later of load the kernel the display is black and i have to turn off the pc becouse don´t make nothing(with the 2 graphic cards).
Bye and thanks.
