Let me start off by saying I decided to make the jump from Kubuntu I know very buggy to OpenSuse 11.2 everything is wonderful except one thing… I install OpenSuse my KDE desktop comes up so then i install updates then when i reboot the computer I get something like… Cannot find any partition. As in there is no data on my hard drive now i have reinstalled 3 times with 2 different disks 1 burned at 4x and one at 8x I cannot seem to find out what the problem is.
Is there any other OS’s on your HD or just Linux?
The only partition on my computer is OpenSuse and the exact error i recieve is “Error No active partition”
Do you have access to the internet and another computer?
yes I do i am currently on my laptop looking at my desktop with opensuse on it.
If you don’t have it, get Parted Magic and burn it to a cd, can you do that?
Downloads
Installing now then i will burn to a cd
OK
Once you have the cd boot from it this way:

Now follow carefully this guide:

If there is any point you don’t follow, I can do this thread step by step if necessary;)
Thanks im trying it right now ill let you know how it goes
Ok first problem i have realized is this
Me: grub> find /boot/grub/menu.lst
Terminal: Error 15: File not found
With that said here is a screenshot i took of my partitions

Strange partitioning
Use the mounter on the PM desktop and look in sda5 and sda7
I want to see what is in them
How do you feel about re-installing and this time we get it right? Can you delete all those partitions or is there some data you need? Don’t do it yet, reply first.
One more re installation wont hurt lol. Lets do this
Also… I can gpart delete everything
First use Parted’s Partitioner to delete all partitions
then apply
unmount those you just mounted
eveything is now deleted and applied
Now. Are you using a DVD or CD to install with?
I am using the DvD for install
Remember this. You only need 3 partitions. Start the DVD, Installation and wait for my next post
