Problem accessing a thumb drive

I may have this in the wrong forum, but this seemed to be as close as I could find, so my apologies if i have it wrong.

I don’t know why, but all of a sudden when I plug in a Corsair thumb drive with a fat32 files system, it registers on the notifier, but when I try to open it in Dolphin, it shows oon the list at the left, but Dolphin opens in the /home/documents folder. Ditto when i try it as root. Media won’t open to anything, and when I click on the Corsair listing in the folders on the left side of Dolphin, I get the error message: unknown file system ‘vfat’.

I have used this drive for over a year with no previous problems, and can access it in 11.3 on my laptop, so I suspect that a setting or something in my system has changed. Unfortunately, I don’t have a clue as to what to look for and would appreciate any help or suggestions anyone can offer.

I do not understand the “/home/documents folder”. Normaly there isn’t such a directory except when there exists a user with the username documents. In most users home directories there is a directory Documents, but that would be something like* /home/oldpopsie/Documents* (depends on the username of course). Is this a typo and do you mean that one?

To find out where it is mounted, please, after putting in the device and going into it by one of the methods that seems to work, do

mount

and post the output here.

I find the same problem by you in the Application forum. PLEASE do not double post!
Some people will answer on one, others on the other and nobody will see the complete discussion. People will be frustrated and in the end there will be posts without solution (because solved in the other one).

Please everybody: use Problem accessing a usb flash drive when posting to this problem.
