How do you get Opensuse 13.1 to printsxcreen. I tried printscreen and alt-printscreen. All that goes to the clipboard is 4 letters aoss. The keys work - verified them in windows.

You don’t say what desktop environment, in GNOME on this laptop I press Fn+prtsc and it automagically takes a screenshot, makes the camera click sound and puts a copy in my ~/Pictures folder…

I have a KDE desktop or I should say had. I ran into another problem where after a Xen crash my machine no longer boots into the desktop. I am kind of waiting on that one as I certainly don’t want to wipe out my installation.
As long as you have KSnapshot installed, PrtSc will work.
Or, if you like going through the menu,
Utilities => Desktop => KSnapshot
and you can take shots of the whole desktop, selected windows, or selected portions.
Yup I do that but what I get instead ooks like process info - I never use screen prints but was troubleshooting and baffled when I would do one and end with things like “[aoss]” instead of the screen even though the focus and everything was correct.
What did you do?
Start KSnapshot from the menu or press the PrtScr key?
If you started KSnapshot and got KSysGuard, that would be strange… 
Maybe your keyboard shortcuts are assigned wrong?
Enter “Configure Desktop”->“Shortcuts and Gestures”->“Global Shortcuts” to change it. “Print Screen” should be under component “khotkeys”.
