Printing Multiple Pages per Sheet fails in 11.4

Hi all.
Unusual problem here -I’m posting in hardware as I’m not certain where it fits.

Home laptop (mainly wife’s in use) upgraded from 11.3x86 last week to 11.4x64, pretty much everything is awesome.
However, when she attempts to print a PDF with multiple pages per sheet (study notes), nothing gets to the printer at all, with the CUPS web interface reporting listing the job state as :

processing since

"No pages found!"

I’ve tried everything I can think of and it has me stumped.
For the record this is what I have tried and/or confirmed:

  • Other laptop running 11.4x64 with same printer driver does not have the problem
  • Have completely removed and reinstalled printer (Brother MFC790CW)
  • Problem is not confined to Okular, tried epdfview and Kate with same results when printing multiple pages per sheet
  • Normal single page per sheet is perfect
  • Created a new user in case it was something carried over in user profile from upgrade

I’m quite stumped for what else to try.
Could it be a problem with my CUPS install -and if so how to nuke?
Any and all suggestions welcomed!

I had a client with this
I setup the printer via the CUPS web interface:
CUPS - Explained

When you set up you will be asked for login and password. You must enter user as ‘root’ and then the root password.

When done, make sure your selecting the newly added CUPS printer, I actually removed the default added one, because they both look almost identical in the dialogue when you are printing a document.

Thanks for that - however in my case it failed to do the trick.

The good news is I’m working now, so for anyone else out there here’s what worked for me:
1/ Uninstall CUPS via YAST (not everything, just the main CUPS server so that not too many dependencies break)
2/ Wipe out (well, copy to a safe place) /etc/cups and ~/.cups
3/ Reinstall CUPS via YAST and reload printer.

Phew, safe to come home again!

Ah, okular. Then you are using a kde functionality. I can guide you via the
CLI method instead.
