She can print to every printer except a printer named ‘itsupport’
(incidentally all the other printers have shorter names.) When she
tries to print to that printer the printer wakes up and then stops and
nothing comes out. CUPS/Papercut show the job as having been printed
We made a whole new account and it didn’t make any difference
then we made a user aaaaaaa.bbbbbbbb and it works fine.
I searched a bit on the ineternet. While a length up to 32 characters of a LOGIN name (uname) seems to be supported at least by the utilities/files that manage users, a more then often restriction to 8 characters is advised because not all applications support longer ones.
Both CUPS and Papercut say the print job completed OK. The printer even wakes up
from sleep just nothing comes out. Shortening the username seems to solve the problem
so I was wondering if there is any limit that I might have come up against that is a combination
of the username and the printer name - since even with her long username it worked to identical
printers with a shorter name -
22 character username + 7 character printer name works
22 character username + 9 character printer name doesn’t
16 character username + 9 character printer name works

What is that Papercut?
Try increasing verbosity in cups logs.

Maybe…
You could try posting on the opensuse mail list, the cups maintainer
lurks there.
