Printier problems, hp printer usb connected

When printing to the installed printer hp:/usb/officejet5600… printer

Cups always reports the the device file can not be opened, this has worked in all previous releases not sure where to look for problem resolution

I ran the hpsetup program everythings seems to report that it was configured properly, it appears to be a problem only when I actually print a document.

deleted and recreated using yast2, deleted recreated using cups, in every case the setup can locate and open the usb device…

Help! this is very frustrating, printing should just work!

12.3 with most current updates

Can you give us the error message, please?

Add your user to the lp and sys groups, using Yast. Then reboot and see if things have improved.

Just recently I reinstalled opensuse 12.3 on a new 1 Tbit internal drive. Everything seams to work well with the exception that I have been unsuccessful in connecting to a hp 8600 officejet printer that is connected to my wireless network. All my other computers and os’s don’t have a problem. I’ve tried different avenues to get opensuse to talk to it , no luck ! I’m writing this for i don’t know where to go !

The general advice with HP wireless printers is to use a static IP address. You don’t say what avenues you have used but, if this is not one, you should use it.

I have tried many different routs and i’m getting closer. Now when I run a test page it shows up in the print que with the message printer not responding.

I have a blog on the subject you might find helpful: https://forums.opensuse.org/blogs/jdmcdaniel3/hp-printing-using-hplip-package-opensuse-146/

Thank You,

After much reading and trying a different approch. I fond an hp app and ran it all the sudden my printer starting working… Thanks for all the good suggestions.
