Printer

G’day.
I just downloaded and installed openSUSE 11.2.
It looks good. Very fast and extremely stable.

My problem is that I use a ‘Canon MP280’ Printer / Scanner / Copier.

It seems that my printer and openSUSE are not compatible.

OpenSUSE can’t find Canon MP280.

Is there a solution please?

Looks like you may have to compile your drivers to use this printer in Linux. Here is their Link.

IJ Printer Driver Ver. 3.40 for Linux (Source file)

Said support in Linux has been the main reason I have stuck with HP printers though no company is perfect in this area. Good luck.

Thank You,

James has given you the link to source files;

Canon also supplies rpm files and deb files, so some could suggest they are supporting linux;

the Canon Asia website gives these links to rpm files; that OpenSuse uses;

MP280 series IJ Printer Driver Ver. 3.40 for Linux (rpm Packagearchive)

so perhaps easier to use rpm files, than source files …

so if you click on these rpm file(s) and let YaST install, you should be able to use the printer;

for the scanner

MP280 series ScanGear MP Ver. 1.60 for Linux (rpm Packagearchive)

this rpm should get the scanner working

let us know how it goes

I expect to buy this equipement, before iIwould aperciate to know , if somebody , has got good results , booth with printer scaner AND with the pixma MP280

Thanks

I have observed that the new machines are not already in the list , but runing correctly , so I Asked to Sladden if he has tested the solution given by pdc 2.
The problem of the lists , that they are not updated. For exemple I use every day Brother machine dcp 7030 , and it is not in the positive list. you have , for Brother, a négative list. In fact they are a lot of Brother which are efficient. I Have find the way to modified this list.;;if you know it…

Thanks

The HCL list is a wiki. You write it yourself :wink:
