Printer works in Ubuntu Mint, Mint Debian but not in Suse

Hi, I installed Suse and like it a lot. I have an OKI C5510MFP GDI printer and all in 1 Lazer printer. Just wondering if their is some way to put Apt in Suse and use the deb files for printer configuration. I can connect to the printer in Suse, but it always gives and invalid data error on test pages.

TIA Bob

Maybe this guide will be helpful to you

foo2hiperc: a linux printer driver for HIPERC protocol

There is a tarball which can be downloaded

wget -O foo2zjs.tar.gz http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/foo2zjs.tar.gz

There are instructions which then show how to compile and install. Then configure via the CUPS web interface

http://localhost:631

I went as far as installing, but obviously can’t test without being in possession of this hardware

Thanks for the help, the hiperc is already installed in most Linux distros by default with cups, I am real close to printing, but not close enough. For some reason Suse sends invalid data to the printer. If there was some way to copy what ever works from Debian to Suse?

Actually, I am going to give the tarball a try, and send them some money if it works.

Well that was well worth 5 or 10 minutes of my time, printed my first test page, thank you very much.

How do I mark the top post as solved, and as promised, support is due to the FOO2 project.

You can’t. You can edit the post title. We have too much experiences in the “what works for you may have issues for the next person” area.

Glad to have been of help. (It took me around 5 minutes to find and install as well  )

I am not the best with that cli tarball stuff, but the web site made it easy to cut and paste.

In general, it is not often that one needs to resort to installing from tarball archives, but sometimes it is all that is available, and as you found, not too difficult to cope with. (I made the effort to install the driver as well, so that I could guide you through any difficulties that may have been encountered).
