printer setup

when configuring printer, i get msg that 2 pkgs wont install “cups-driver” & “gutenprint”. when printing test page printer either prints nothing or just spits out unlimited blank pages until i cancel it.

all help appreciated.

Look at this site to find the proper drivers for your printer.
http://openprinting.org/printer_list.cgi

It seems that YAST has problems setting up certain printers, you can always
install them directly with CUPS at this address:

http://localhost:631/

If you still have problems, post back with the make and model of the
printer(s).

did both things you suggested but to no avail. Configure still looking for the drivers mentioned b4. printer is HP photosmart c5580 All-In-One

this was on test yes. when i select “print test” the printer fires up but does not print. then sometimes it starts printing blank pages and wont stop until i cancel.

Look in the Hardware Forum for threads on HP printers. One recent one is:
“printer’s problem” posted by matrobriva. The solution posted by Malcolm is
to install: hplip. You will find details in that, and other threads.
