Hi.
I have connected my Canon inkjet i9950 to my system. However, when I go to print PDFs it most times locks up part way through printing a page. I have to disconnect the USB to free up the printer to form feed the stuck page.
If I print test pages via CUPS localhost:631 they too only print part of the page and lock up.
I did notice that as the page is being printed there is a “Printer State” field. As it progresses up to 100% it prints but as soon as it says “Processing - Rendering completed”, which is only part way through the actual page being printed, the printing stops/freezes. See screen shot https://paste.opensuse.org/75588534 .
Any ideas what’s going wrong? I spent a few days googling but came up blank.
Thanks,
Chris.
I note that turboprint offer a commercial Linux driver for this model. They let users try it for free for 30 days, and upgrade to the paid-version if happy with it.
In /usr/share/cups/model/gutenprint/5.2/C/ there’re 2 PPD files for the i9950: a “normal” one – stp-bjc-i9950.5.2.ppd.gz – and a “simplified” one – stp-bjc-i9950.5.2.sim.ppd.gz.
Both are installed via the gutenprint package.
What happens if you attempt to use the “simplified” PPD?
Thanks, I downloaded and compiled version 5.3.3. No change.
However I have discovered a quirk that it seems to be the last page that has issues. If I print a 2 page doc, page 1 is ok. I think I can trick it by editing and adding a blank page to the end of the docs I want. Yes it’s a work around and fiddly but I only do printing occasionally. So my i9950 is not a total paperweight;)
I’ll still report this to gimp-print after I test a bit more. But first I need to buy more ink cartridges cause all those test pages has emptied them>:(
