i’m using a Lexmark Pro 905 printer , it’s a local printer with Ethernet connection to the pc.
I installed the driver and this used to work on 11.2, now with openSUSE 11.3 it’s not working. THe yast test page comes out but nothing is printed from open office.
I opened port 661 UDP in the firewall but still no result comes from open office.
I then added the printer in cups but i still have an error and no print :
( cups-1.4.4-2.3.i586 )
Lexmark_Network_Backend_1
Lexmark Pro800-Pro900 Series
Local Printer Lexmark Pro800-Pro900 Series, 1.0
Idle - "/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstoraster failed"
It looks like an error is in Cups linked with filters but i’m not sure what is missing .
Two kinds of CUPS filters use the CUPS raster API - raster image processor
(RIP) filters such as pstoraster and cgpdftoraster (Mac OS X) that produce
CUPS raster files and printer driver filters that convert CUPS raster files
into a format usable by the printer.
Printer driver filters are by far the most common.
I have the same problem, and whenever something rolls out of my printer, it is a completely black page! Something changed and is broken since 11.3 RC1 because in that version I tested the same print setup and it worked. Hope someone finds the problem.
I have got the same problem. My printer (CANON IP4500) doesn’t print any page. Error message “/usr/lib/cups/filter/pstoraster failed”. The printer worked fine with open SUSE 11.2.
used to work on 11.2, now with openSUSE 11.3 it’s not working.
**** - I’ve got the same problem with Lexmark Z705. Was OK in 11.1 but the driver from Lexmark Z700/P700 linux printer drivers don’t work. Had trouble . No print.
Seems to be a common problem with the upgrade from 11.2 to 11.3.
Printer: Lexmark S305
This printer worked fine with 11.2, now I receive the “pstoraster failed” error since I upgraded to 11.3. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the Lexmark linux driver to no avail.
Thanks. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. I was also able to find this related tech support page on Lexmark’s website that references a similar error on Fedora.
It appears that the ghostscript packages need to be upgraded from 8.70 to 8.71…however currently 8.70 is the latest available for openSUSE (aside from a manual install which didn’t work for me as after that was installed, the lexmark printer install causes opensuse 11.3 to reinstall cups and the older 8.70 packages).
I seem to have gotten my Lexmark S305 working by completely uninstalling cups and any ghostscript packages, reboot, then reinstall the lexmark .sh install script. This will prompt for reinstallation of cups and ghostscript automatically. After doing so, my printing is working fine (no more pstoraster errors).
