Printer not not properly, only giberish

Hi all,

I hooked up my usb Epson Stylus CX3810 scanner/printer.

Opensuse picked up both the scanner and the printer.

Now when I try to print a single page doc file, pages and pages of incomprehensible stuff comes out.

I try to print something else, and it either doesn’t work, or doesn’t print correctly.

What can I do to fix this?

I haven’t even tried the scanner part yet.

Thanks

Heeter

The openprinting database has this to say:
OpenPrinting database - Printer: Epson Stylus CX3810

Confirm you have gutenprint installed by typing:
rpm -q gutenprint

There is a Linux Epson printer forum here:
OpenPrinting User Forums :: Printers from Epson

I took a look at the Epson web site, and did not see an Epson Linux driver:
Epson Stylus CX3810, Overview - Technical Support - Epson America, Inc.
… out of curiousity, why buy a printer where the manufacturer does not provide Linux drivers? …

Hi OldCPU,

Thanks again for your assistance.

This printer was purchased for a Windows machine before I moved to Opensuse. The main machine that my wife and I use was a windows machine, and my other ones were opensuse, but they don’t have any printers attached to those. Now that the main machine has Opensuse, I need a printer/scanner attached to it.

In your opinion, what would be a good printer/scanner for my Opensuse needs. Something that can print great photo quality. I don’t mind purchasing a new printer/scanner that shoots out great photo quality on photo paper.

As for the gutenprint command, I have this version: gutenprint-5.0.2-13.1

That Linux Epson Site is not too organized, it is actually quite a mess to find something.

Maybe it’s me who doesn’t understand that format
