Printer Maintenance

Installing Leap 15 last week went smoothly enough, as did setting up the drivers for my printer. Something is missing though. I had an issue with my printer resulting in ink ending up on the rollers. In Windoze I would run the usual maintenance program to clean the rollers and bottom plate. However, in KDE, I have not found software to perform this. So, without having to find a Windoze computer, how do I perform maintenance on my printer? I could use cleaning sheets but that will not perform other tasks that may be required from time to time. Oh yes, as someone will ask, this is a Canon Pixma MG2920.

So, without having to find a Windoze computer, how do I perform maintenance on my printer?

Do it from the printer itself when needed…

Cleaning the Print Head

Clean the print head if lines are missing or if horizontal white streaks are present in the printed nozzle check pattern. Cleaning unclogs the nozzles and restores the print head condition. Cleaning the print head consumes ink, so clean the print head only when necessary.
  • Make sure that the power is turned on.

  • Hold down the Stop button until the Alarm lamp flashes twice, then release it immediately.
The machine starts cleaning the print head.
The cleaning will be complete when the ON lamp lights after flashing.
Do not perform any other operations until the machine completes the cleaning of the print head. This takes about 30 seconds.

Thanks! I tried to find something online that would show how to perform maintenance in other os’s but while I found a lot of info, it was mostly about actually getting printers to work. If I weren’t so lazy I would go hunting through my documentation because there was probably something there too as this printer is used mostly with phones and tablets but I’m great at putting stuff in a safe place, so safe that even I can’t find it.:stuck_out_tongue:

Glad to have been of help. I’ve got various user manuals (PDFs) scattered around on a couple of laptops. Every now and again, I make a bit of effort to consolidate them in one common directory, or delete if no longer relevant to me.

That’s a great idea. I have a drawer full of manuals for appliances, any electronics etc., and I am sure I can find a PDF for this printer and a few other items as well. I’m going to start putting my new library together now as I am in an ambitious mood but it’s too hot to actually do anything physical. Again, thanks a lot!
