printer issues

hi,

I have problem with my printer it will detect the usb but there is no drivers in the repos I was wondering what I can do to fix this.

Thanks,
Patrick Voege

You need to give the printer model - as assume you have tried YaST and been directed to a repo which doesn’t appear to have anything for your printer.

Canon MP510 is my model and yes I have tried and it didnt work.

Check here for the driver:
http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Canon-PIXMA_MP510

If you search this forum you will find lots of threads on installing Canon
printers. There is a bit of a trick to make them word on x86_64 systems.

I’m afraid I can not read the error message on the link you provided. I can
see a message but I need younger eyes, a larger screen or more beer  Can
you post the message? Alternatively try to install with the rpm command. In
a terminal window type:

rpm -Uvh [full path to rpm]

Most likely you will get exactly the same errors but you can cut and paste the
error messages into a new post.

Deathvalley123;
There are 2(two) cannon rpm’s that need to be installed. You must first
install the common rpm and then the printer specific. On the same page you
found the printer rpm you will find the common rpm. Down load the 2.70
common, then install the MP510 rpm. You will also find a 2.70 Guide on the
same page. Download and read that. Are you on an x86_64 system? If so it
will be necessary to set up a link in /usr/lib64/cups/filter to the cannon
filter in /usr/lib/cups/filter.
