tried to install my (old) printer, result: doesn’t work!

You should use
hp-setup
in terminal to set up your Printer.

Or use cups to get them installed:
localhost:631
in a browser.

  • How did you set up this printer?
  • Did it work before?
  • Have you tried switching the printer off and on again, and unplugging/re-plugging it?
  • is it a printer that needs the proprietary plugin?
  • have you tried cupsenable 'HP-LaserJet-Professional-P1102' and cupsaccept 'HP-LaserJet-Professional-P1102'?

Removed printer, added printer a few times, it was successful with downloading some kind of driver.
Finally a test print page appeared. Tried printing a text file too which was successful.
used yast-printer.

yast-printer has been deprecated for years. Don’t use it.

I have noticed that many things in opensuse are outdated.
I am not a specialist, just a novice.
I have only had trouble with Yast - printer.

Yast printer should have been retired years ago. I guess it will eventually happen.

As others have written, for HP printers use the “hp-toolbox” or “hp-setup” tools.
