i am totally confused. i installed all software for hp photosmart c5500 printer - hplip, etc. configured printer, etc, printed test page ok. but when i try to print a document in kwrite for example it doesn’t print. when i use “manage printers” from utilities the jobs are all listed there and new ones seem to be in a pending or incomplete state. i can’t get them to go to my printer!!! i have checked & double checked the setup & all seems to ok & again test page works ok.

Go directly into CUPS (http://localhost:631/) and check two things:
Is the printer stopped? If so you can resume it.
Check to see if there are any entries in the allow/deny users. Either
clear all the entries (no users allowed or denied) or add your username to
the allow list.
did as you suggested & all seems to be working now. will keep my eye on it just to be sure.
as you can tell i am a linux & suse newbie & it is frustrating.

Glad to help you out. In no time at all you’ll be an expert. Linux seems to
take a bit more tinkering than Windows, but it worth the effort.

I do not have any HP printers installed so this is a bit speculative,
hopefully someone else will jump in here. My guess is that when you made
changes with CUPS (you never said just what those were), the
file /etc/cups/printers.conf changed and the “hp device mgr” is not seeing
the printer. Does the printer work?
As to the panel; you did not say what GUI you are using. If it is KDE 3.5 try
the following:
Right click on an icon. If you see an option to unlock the panel choose that
and go to next step. When you right click you should see a menu item to move
the icon, choose that to get things back. There are also sliders to locate
various parts of the panel (when unlocked). If the whole panel has been
moved, when you right click on an empty area of the panel there is an option
to configure the panel.

\i have suse 11.0 which uses kde4.xxx. when clickung in taskbar or whatever it’s called i dont have options you mentioned. i will keep playing with it to see if i can resolve issue. as far as the hp device mgr goes, it seems to be working ok now. dont really know why tho…
