Preferred, safe way to delete Btrfs snapshots?

I’m a Tumbleweed newbie. So I go into Yast and open the Filesystem Snapshots app. IINM this app is also known as Snapper. I see a list of all my snapshots and a Delete button at the bottom. Is this Delete button the safe and preferred way to delete snapshots? Or is there a better way? “Better” means less chance of data corruption.

Also, is there a common way(s) that Btrfs gets corrupted? And if yes, what is it and what can I do to avoid it?

Also, does Btrfs require any kind of regular maintenance? Like fsck or something like that?

I’m an average home user with one laptop and nothing else. I do browsing and work with a few documents and that’s it. I don’t do programming or gaming or video editing. I have no RAID, no NAS, no home network, and no homelab.

The best way is to do nothing. Snapshots will be automatically removed for you.

Regular maintenance is also automatically performed.

This advice assumes you have done a normal (default) install.

So if I read the manual correctly, Snapper automatically handles the deletion of old snapshots. Sounds like the user doesn’t need to worry about manually deleting old snapshots.

Perfect answer for a newbie like me. The system automatically handles all that stuff. Nice. I can focus on getting to the next level of Leisure Suit Larry.
