Power Profile (more fan-noise on openSUSE)

I recently switch from debian trixie to openSUSE tumbleweed.

The fan of my desktop is definetly turning up more often, sometimes for short moment.

Any tips what I can do or where to look. I just switch to the powersafe profile, that solves the problem without any notable slowing down.

My Machine (Desktop):
MACHINE: ASRock Type B650E PG-ITX WiFi
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7500F (6) @ 5.08 GHz
GPU: AMD AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT (amdgpu)

So, maybe I’m confused.

You state Powersafe solves the issue, with no slow-down.

So, if that’s a good solution, what’s the “problem”?
You don’t want to use Powersafe?

Yes, it works. But I am not used to use powerprofiles on a desktop. On a laptop totally ok.

So maybe I am confused that my fan spins up in openSUSE while it was quite on debian.

I just want to find out :slight_smile:

Is it maybe the default debian install is on powersafe. Did you check before when you were still using debian.

Your BIOS has fan profiles where you can set the fans to slow when the CPU is cool and faster as the CPU heats up, using a fan curve.

I use CoolerControl so I can adjust the fan curves from within Tumbleweed.

Hmm. The daemon is running, but the apps sais “No connection to 127.0.0.1” oder localhost?

My Problem is solved. I had a faulty PSU.
