postFix yast differences

Hey there gang,

I have two systems, one is a SLES 10 SP3 system and one is an OpenSuse 12.1 system

On the SLES system in Yast -> Network Services I see “Mail Transfer Agent”
On the OpenSuSE system in Yast -> Network Services I see “Mail Server”

OS has postfix version: 2.8.7-3.7.1 Installed: 2.8.5-3.2.1
SLES has postfix version: 2.Version: 2.5.6-4.7.44 Installed: 2.5.6-4.7.44

Now if I go into each section of yast the look quite similar with some differences.

So my question is, are those two things one and the same or are they actually MTA only on the SLES version and the full blown mail server on the OS one?

Inquiring minds…

Thanks in advance.

Obviously SLES is a server pay version and has different options than the
openSUSE version.

The SLES version is more complete.

more or less, MTA == Mail Server, check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Message_transfer_agent

IIRC, the SLES does have specific Novell ldap configs and more complete integration which are not available for OpenSUSE.

I think also that SLES does have few other tools but what is the main difference between them is the long-time-support which Novell has for the software, i.e. security patches.

On the other hand you can get newer version for SLES too (try a SLES search for postfix on software.opensuse.org/search/ ) but I have no idea how well it will fit. I remember I did a php and mysql version upgrade for SLES 9 and it worked though.
