POP3 checker

Hello all,

Is there a good pop3 checker for Gnome or Cairo-dock? I need to check multiple pop3 accounts. I just want a small applet of some sort that notifies me when one of them receives a mail.

I also use Screenlets, but the widget that comes with that can only handle one account and doesn’t show if there is mail like 9 out of 10 times.

Thanks!

Man I wish I could code

No suggestions?

hmmmm…i don’t understand exactly what you want/need…

i use Thunderbird looking at six different POP accounts (on several
different domains, in several different countries, including gmail)
and two different NNTP servers…

and, by magic every once in a while i hear “you have mail”…

i can choose to leave the message on the distant server, or not…is
that kinda what you want?

No, I believe the OP is looking for something that will notify you if
you have email without having to open up your client. I personally only
know about the gmail notifier but I don’t remember if that is a windows
app, linux app or firefox extension.

Try this application I use it and works fine for me. It runs in the kicker and will notify you when new mail comes in. KShowmail

ok, but i don’t see any benefit in that…so, i know i have mail
waiting somewhere…so what do i do, open a client…

where is the benefit of the additional step of knowing BEFORE you open
the client that mail is waiting?

i know, not opening the client…right?

and, do we also want something to tell us that someone tried to IM us,
but we didn’t have our IM client running?

how about something to keep watch on our facebook (etc etc) account
and let us know when someone said something, before we open our browser…

or Skype to wave a red flag saying someone called, before Skype is
opened…

and how about the doorbell tells us someone in about to push it before
it is pushed…

gimme a break!

Or an app that tells you there is an update before downloading ang
installing the update first… :).

As the saying goes, “One mans junk is another mans treasure.”

Well just accept our situations and needs DIFFER. Man how worked up can you get by someone’s request? GimME a break!

Since you apparently must know, I have a lot of websites for which I sometimes actually do receive email. They are all configured on my PC at home. Since I have a life I don’t always turn on that PC. It sometimes takes me days before I actually do check those mails. Also, since these mails are not work related I choose to not receive/handle/reply them at work, but I do like to know if a mail is received so I know that when I get back home I need to make some time to read and perhaps reply them. Indeed, Thunderbird does this too. I was just thinking, why use a full client when a small pop-up kinda thingy would suffice…? If I can’t find a good little app to do this I will use Thunderbird for it, but I rather not.

@harrylanza: Thank you for this helpful reply, Hope it works with Gnome without having to install a lot of KDE libs.

Ok I tried kshowmail. It does what I want but it wont show in the Gnome notification area.

I did find this when I googled for kshowmail alternatives:

gnubiff homepage

This seems to do what I want, so thanks for the help/replies.

I use korn, but it is another kde application.

Thanks for the tip.

I can recommend gnubiff for Gnome users. Just to bad there is no RPM. It can be installed as a Gnome Panel application.

Hi
If you search here Get
It
