Poor NAT performace

Hi all,

Here’s my setup I have a SuSE Leap 15.4 box that is acting as my internet gateway (and mailserver / DNS/DHCP). It’s a shuttle machine that has 2x Gigabit ethernet cards on the motherboard. The machine has 16GB of RAM and an i3-8100 CPU.

I have just upgraded my internet connection from FTTC to FTTP, both of which terminate in a PPPoE.

I have my LAN connected to eth0 and my internet to eth1 (via PPPoE). I have setup NAT using firewall-config .

However if I run a speedtest via speedtest.net directly on the machine I get a DL/UL speed of about 450/100* mbps. However running the same test on a machine connected to the NAT and I only get about 100/100 which suggests to me that there is a problem with the NAT somewhere?

Does anyone have any clues how I might resolve this. If any other information is needed please feel free to ask.

*My new FTTP connection should be 900/100 mbps, so I’m going to raise this with my ISP, though still doesn’t explain the NAT issue.

Cheers.

Phill.

Or that you are using 100Mb/s switch internally. Or that your cable is not 1GbE compliant and only works with 100Mb/s.
