Poor browsing performance (nslookup is fast)

Hi all,

I’m running openSUSE 11 now and I’m experiencing poor browsing performance, i.e. the browser shows the status message “looking up xy.com” very long. Data throughput on downloads is good (>800kb/sec), once the connection is established.

Here’s what I checked / observed:

  1. nslookup is fast (not only for adresses visited lately)
  2. my old XP running in a VMWare box within openSUSE 11 shows a good browsing performance using Opera, Internet Explorer, Firefox. Quick responses, fast downloads.
  3. Firefox and Opera both show poor response times under openSUSE. Visiting a web page takes several seconds - up to 20 or 30.

From 2) I gather that my ADSL router is not responsible for my problem.

What can I do to track down the problem? I cannot really see on which activities Firefox and Opera are spending so much time. As mentioned earlier, my XP box within the very same physical machine responds very much faster.

Any hints will be appreciated.

Check that IPv6 is disabled (in YaST > Network Device).

Hi
Disable IPV6 systemwide, uninstall beagle (or disable the firefox
beagle plugin) and disable the security feature in Firefox.
