I’m running openSUSE 11 now and I’m experiencing poor browsing performance, i.e. the browser shows the status message “looking up xy.com” very long. Data throughput on downloads is good (>800kb/sec), once the connection is established.
Here’s what I checked / observed:
nslookup is fast (not only for adresses visited lately)
my old XP running in a VMWare box within openSUSE 11 shows a good browsing performance using Opera, Internet Explorer, Firefox. Quick responses, fast downloads.
Firefox and Opera both show poor response times under openSUSE. Visiting a web page takes several seconds - up to 20 or 30.
From 2) I gather that my ADSL router is not responsible for my problem.
What can I do to track down the problem? I cannot really see on which activities Firefox and Opera are spending so much time. As mentioned earlier, my XP box within the very same physical machine responds very much faster.
