This is my first poll
All started form this topic: Make Yast2 stay open after installing packages
I even created a FATE request to see what happens: https://features.opensuse.org/312750
PS: sorry about the double posting i have press the wrong button…
I voted I like it the way it is, since that covers all options: If I know I have to do a lot of subsequent actions in Yast, like right after a new install, I set it to return to the software installer. I’ve seen similar threads and polls in other distro’s forums where the opposite was asked for, i.e. “Why does the installer not close when I’m done installing”. I’m not conservative, but I think we have all the options available.
Idea: IMHO it would be a good feature to ask the user for a preference the first time he uses the software installer after the actual install of the OS…
While I did vote yes on this poll, I’d like the option to turn staying open on or off. There have been times when just one round is enough & others where I’ve needed to do 3 or more(as mentioned usually on a fresh install).
One more thing Creatura thanks for the tip but still it be great if it were a default thing.
Why not give the option to the user as to how they want the default to be.
I voted for yes.
Some months ago, after reading the post you quote, I configured yast to stay open and I find it very useful.
Should that be the default option? Maybe, but as it is so easy to configure I wouldn’t insist too much.
This seems kinda silly. If you want the manager to stay open, uncheck the box. You can make this the default behavior in /etc/sysconfig. Does it really need a feature request?

sorry, but there is no such summary page nor box to check (or not) if
using default installed openSUSE 11.4, KDE4.6.0, and YaST 2.20.12
what operating system/version and desktop environment/version are you using?
are you maybe using packagekit instead of YaST?

Or this one http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13421332/yast.png
It’s been in the package summary for GTK Yast through 11.3. Don’t know why they would remove it, unless it just isn’t available in QT Yast.
I never saw a summary page at all until I just now changed the default behavior in /etc/sysconfig from “close” to “summary”. Now I get a summary page, but there is still no checkbox. This is in the QT interface.
I’d be fine with the behavior defaulting to summary if there were a checkbox on that page.
I don`t have it under KDE.
There’s a summary option in /etc/sysconfig. I guess GTK Yast displays a summary regardless of this setting.

see, the suggestion is not as “silly” as chief_sealth thought.,.because
the check box is not available in KDE…
and, i have no idea if it is available in LXDE, XFCE, etc etc etc either…
now why that is i do not know, perhaps it would be better to ask the
devs to give all desktop environments a check box…so everyone could
check it…or just let it be born staying open as most folks
apparently want…

If we can’t/don’t have the choice for it to stay open or not, then my vote is for it to stay open.
Of course there is a choice. Go into sysconfig settings and on the left is a nice treee. It’s the plus sign at the bottom, expand it, find yast settings, and find the one thats keeps yast open. You’ll find it. It works not matter if KDE, LXDE, GNOME, or whatever. Or you can manually edit the sysconfig file in /etc.
Always remember…You always have a choice in Linux.
Yast - System - Sysconfig Editor, search for “ACTION”. One item is found, set it’s value to “summary”. Done.
