I am loving openSuse but still really new and having a lot of issues. Please forgive the total noob in me.
Tumbleweed: I love this version, however it seems that some updates are causing major issues. I cannot log out, if I hard reboot I cannot get KDE just a black screen asking for log in information. When I enter it, I just have a command prompt. I have tried a fresh install with just defaults and when I do openSuse upgrades this still happens.
ok, that said, I went back to 13.2 and here are the issues with this.
I go into the customize desktop features, icons, window decorations, themes and so on… it will give me a list of items to download but none of them actually download. This is just 1 day after I was able to do these things. I messed something up and had to do a fresh install. Not sure why this is happening all of a sudden. I really don’t want to have to do a complete re-install again.
How do I create custom desktop themes? I see there is a place to change details but that does not seem to work for me.
Granted, I have an older laptop with a small HD. It is an HP Compaq 6220 with a 1733 processor, 30 gig HD (forget the ram, 1 gig maybe less)
I would really like to go back to Tumbleweed, it use to work fine on this laptop but it just keeps crashing on me. However on the flip side, I really like that 13.2 has more customization. (or at least it seems that way)
I wish I had a 64 bit system since it seems that most newer updates are made for 64 bit and not 32 which I have.
Any help, tips or direction would be much appreciated.
When you want help, start a thread for every different issue you have. Answering a thread with multitude of problems becomes unevitably a mess. In the end nobody, including you, will understand anymore which posts belongs to which of your problems.
And when you start those threads, you will also be able to give them usefull titles, that will communicate the main keywords of your problem to your potential helpers. “Please Help” as title in a help forum does not communicate anything usefull… Everybody starting a thread in one of these Technical Help forums needs help.
People that browse the titles of new threads will try to help on subjects they know more, they will probably skip your’s because of it containing no information.
There are a lot of fellow openSUSE users here and they love it to help you. But not everybody knows everything about all facets. Thus some will answer on one problem and others on another. We wait for your new threads. And in the mean time, please relax. People here are very kind to newcomers here (welcome BTW). Specialy when you make it easier to them to help you.
