It is possible to add a PCI ID to a device driver to extend its internal database of known supported devices.
PCI ID numbers are entered and displayed as hexadecimal numbers. SysFS Dir. is the directory name in the /sys/bus/pci/drivers directory. If it is empty, the driver name is used as the directory name.
If the driver is compiled into the kernel, leave the driver name empty and enter the SysFS directory name instead.
Use the buttons below the table to change the list of PCI IDs. Press Finish to activate the settings.

IMHO it would have been better to continue in the other thread, as the whole context is there and your problem isn’t solved yet.
But anyway.
so now i’ll proceed to yast >network>global, then select ifupand see whath happens!
No, you should switch to NetworkManager, then click on the network icon in the panel/systemtray and try to connect to your router.
might i still have to deletesome of the installeddevices?
What devices do you actually see?
Normally you should not have to delete anything. Deleting a device there is the exact opposite from what you want to achieve, as it removes the configuration.
i didn’t change to if up, but tried to edit the device. there isn’t much displayed i can pick up with the mouse. i did get this
Network is currently controlled by NetworkManager and its settings
cannot be edited by YaST.
To edit the settings, use the NetworkManager connection editor or
switch the network setup method to Traditional with ifup.
my recollection is that the nm connectioneditor requires a network to work!
so then milling in circles, itry to change something! for example ipv4gwcan be enp9s0.
ipv6def gw canbe the same or lo,orwlanbus pcmica. nothing seems to mak any diffrerence ok gets error: no network connectionin this locatio, all the net security is off.also since the wlan works with vista, i can look insid e at it’s configsaving it as small files,i can pastethat intothe little nm screens. that datapasts into thenm as red and i never get a chance to save anything!
one point that hasn’tcome upis that i installedlxde. i probably have the gnomenm.if ican install kdeoff thedvdwiyhout a networkwould that be worthh doing?
please stick with a little longer! maybe we can get a wired connection to work heboland
Yes. When using NetworkManager, you have to use the NetworkManager applet to setup a wireless connection.
If you use ifup, you have to configure it in YaST.
What devices do you see in YaST?
my recollection is that the nm connectioneditor requires a network to work!
Well, of course you need a network to setup a connection.
How do you want to connect to a network when there is none?
Or what do you mean with that?

You are hard to understand.
Where are you doing what?
As I wrote already, just click on the network icon and you should see all available wireless networks.
Click on one to connect to it.
Then you are asked for a passphrase if necessary.
You shouldn’t have to do anything else.
You might have to run “nm-applet” yourself though in lxde, I don’t know that.

No. NetworkManager is NetworkManager. Just the frontends might look a bit different.

The wired connection should work out of the box by just connecting a cable.
Can you do that and post the output of /sbin/ifconfig?
iwent back to yast >network settingsto try to takescreene shots with gimp. inoticeda commrnt therto the affectof missing bmfwcutter,so i decidedto reinstallthe fw after seing that comment.prior to that, i tried to save the vistawifi info. it wrote that into a binary file, i hoped scan with less in the process, i wrote down the vista ssid.
after the fw reinstallation and the reboot, just adding the ssid to the nm screen brought out those beautiful blue bars!
wolfi323thanks a millionfor your fw tools and sticking with me!
Well, those “fw tools” are not mine.
And why are you always mixing questions and your own sentences with the computer output inside code tags? Please don’t do that.
This makes your posts extremely hard to read.
wolfi323 sorry aboutmixingcomments with the tags thanks for pointing thatbaf posting out! too badii’m back on vista again! the wifi and the wired connection are working, but i cant connect to anything. my guessis that i’m missing some dns stuff. i stillhavetheworking vistasetup to gleen for setup info. i should be able to finish internet connection. thanks again for your help heboland
