Please help, Leap going crazy

Hi,

I decided to switch to Leap from Tumbleweed just to add some stability, but lo and behold, issues have arised.

The timeline is as following: I installed Leap 42.3, it installed normally, I fully updated it, and now i receive random freezes which result in an unusable system that keeps logging out. Here’s some of the Xorg.0.log (can’t post the whole thing):

Please help, what’s wrong with this? The 4.4 kernel worked normally on other distros. Thanks!

Jeez, I see that the intel graphics driver wasn’t installed. How can that happen on a clean install?

Maybe your HW doesn’t like the backported drm drivers in drm-kmp-default: try to uninstall that package and see if that helps.

AFAIK the installer defaults to the modesetting driver for some graphics chips.

Hi, bruno.

How do i do that?

Thanks!

You can do that by YaST Software, looking for package drm-kmp-default and uninstalling it, or in a terminal by issuing:

su -
<password for root>
zypper rm drm-kmp-default

So basically, i install intel video driver, uninstall the package you specified, and that should be it?

Thanks

I would suggest to uninstall drm-kmp-default first, reboot and see if that is enough.
If the installer defaulted to NOT installing the Intel driver, maybe there are problems installing it with your current HW. The modeset driver should work better than the intel with newer Intel GPUs.
If needed, you may try to install the Intel driver and see how it compares to the modesetting driver. Write back here in case of trouble.

Hi,

removing drm-kmp has done the trick. Everything in order now!

Thanks.
