please help install opensuse 11.1

hello, this is my first post into opensuse forums, ive been using for a time ubuntu, and i wanted to try out open suse, yesterday i managed to download and burn the version 11.1 but i am having some problems installing it, ive read the noobie guides and i couldnt figure out what is happening.

i run a dell inspirion 1420 2 gb ram and 500gb hdd

when i start the cd i get the menu and i click into install, then after some moments i get this

file:/var/adm/mount/boot/i386/root: SHA1 sum wrong.
if you really trust your repository, you may continue in an insecure mode

then, i click into ok

and get this

make sure that cd number 1 is in your drive

i click ok, and after some loading i get this error

an error ocurred during instalation

and i get to the main menu when clicking ok to that, then if i click install or upgrade, it wont work the same would appear, so please can anyone help me?

this is the status of my hdd

Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xf5f3f5f3

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 3922 31503433+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda2 3923 7958 32419170 5 Extended
/dev/sda5 3923 7691 30274461 83 Linux
/dev/sda6 7692 7958 2144646 82 Linux swap / Solaris

and the rest of the space is unallocated, i am planning on using 30 gb for open suse and the rest to format it into ntfs so i can use it as storage space from any of the partition’s OS’s

Boot the install disc and at the menu select the Media Check and wait for it to run - after some time it will finish and give OK or Fail.
Why did you download 11.1 when 11.2 was released yesterday?

because i did not know, should i download the 11.2 or can i upgrade from 11.1?

Get 11.2 it will be a better experience for you.
And remember to check the download and then do the media check from the menu.

what do you mean to check the download?

It really sounds like your CD image was corrupted. This occurred either when downloading or when burning the image/iso to CD.

If you download Opensuse 11.2, make sure that the md5 sum checks out. As well, I recommend that you burn to CD at a slower speed (not the maximium speed of your drive). This often burns more accurately.

I hope this helps.

how do i check the sum from ubuntu do any of you know?

First open a terminal and cd to the location of the downloaded .iso
Remember you can use the TAB key to auto complete the file name

so type

md5sum openS{TAB}

and it will autocomplete to eg:

md5sum openSUSE-11.2-DVD-i586.iso
(or whatever you downloaded) Hit enter and wait

If it’s OK. Burn it slowly. Boot the disc and do the media check from the menu to check the burn was OK.
