please help for a noob

hi…my first days il linux…one bigger problem, one smaller:

  1. my graphic card is new hd5750. ati still dont have a linux driver and 5800 series driver doesnt work. series 4000 divers dont give me 1680x1050, vesa also…any advice??? basicly all i want is to have this resolution untill official driver gets out. btw guys on one website used opengl 2.19 to test my card, but i am confused how to install it…

  2. prior suse installation with kde went bad after i agreed too upadate all the software, only thing i could do to save grub and get my windows back was to install suse again with gnome but prior installation somehow splited my linux partition in two and one is now 20gb of free space that i cant allocate in windows7.(2gb swap drive alsp remained) Can I reconnect thoose two linux partitions in one?

Re 1.: check forum posts on latest ATI driver. I’m using NVIDIA only, so cannot help you here.
Re 2.: You did not check the partitioning. So openSUSE created the necessary partitions for you. It can be undone with a lot of work and time, but better you reinstall and take care that the partitioning is done the way you want it.

Although not FOSS the program called ‘Partition Magic’ has saved my ass on
more than one occasion.
