Please help a newbie fix screen flickering

Greetings! I am a Suse newbie, and I’m having trouble with something. I have used Linux before, but not Suse. I just installed Suse 11.1, with KDE4. My screen is flickering…about once every 10 seconds, it goes black for a fraction of a second. It might be because both my graphics card and monitor are very old.

My graphics card is neither NVidia nor ATI; it’s a SIS 315 PRO (very old card, poor quality). My monitor is a 10-year-old IBM E74.

Can anyone suggest something that I can do?

You can allways get new hardware.
The time my screen had that problem it had to do with drivers and hardware.

I think you have the ATI-driver installed. In most cases they don’t support the older cards. Except for nVidia. If you don’t have the driver installed get it installed. The wiki can help you there. ATI - openSUSE
