Hi,
Tried to setup MIDI music playback in VLC, but can’t find: “VLC-FluidSynth” package in YaST Software?
(this worked when I was using Kubuntu 18.04 Linux)
Is MIDI music file playback not possible on openSUSE Tumbleweed KDE 64Bit’s VLC?
If no, then please recommend the best MIDI music file playback application with export to WAV/OGG format.
Thanks!
Jesse
Just search for ‘fluidsynth’. The packages are there.
Hi,
“vlc-fluidsynth” is not available?
What should I install to have MIDI playback in VLC?
Thanks!
Jesse
Hi,
Just need MIDI playback on openSUSE Tumbleweed KDE 64Bit with WAV export.
Does not have to be VLC, can be something else.
Any suggestions?
Jesse
Hi,
I did some research:
(playing MIDI in VLC on openSUSE looks like a lost cause)
I found something else I might be able to use to play MIDI but it shows packages are missing when opening it:
The audio/MIDI engine could not be started.
Make sure the JACK audio server (jackd) and
the ALSA Sequencer kernel module (snd-seq-midi)
are up and running and then restart the session.
(i did search for above two packages in YaST Software, but they were not found)
Using below software:
https://qtractor.sourceforge.io/
I tried both the RPM and AppImage(as well as the older version in YaST Software), all show above errors when the application is run?
Any ideas, let me know, thanks!
Jesse
I use MuseScore to play .mid files
3.1.0 for OpenSUSE 15.1 works fine in 15.2 - should work in Tumbleweed.
https://software.opensuse.org/package/musescore select show musescore for other distributions and then Tumbleweed.
Hi…
MuseScore works great on Tumbleweed and has WAV export of MID music files.
Just what I was looking for, thanks!
