play m4a files in xmms

Does anyone know how to make xmms play .m4a files??

Install xmms2 and xmms2-plugin-mp4?

hey i didnt see a download link for the installation of xmms2 on opensuse…can you help me out

It is in packman

If you have followed the multimedia instructions to add the propitiatory codecs then you should hae the packman repo active

If not add it in yast then got yast software management and search for and install xmms

Just open your Software / Install Software, xmms2 is included with the distribution.

Alternatively, open a terminal and type;

sudo zypper in xmms2 xmms2-plugin-mp4 xmms2-plugin-pulse

Then open xmms2 from the KDE/GNOME menu or launch it from a terminal and enjoy some tunes. There are other plugins you may want to install too like ffmpeg, m3u etc. I’ll let you discover those on your own :wink:

The propritary drivers and thus the player should both come from packman. Don’t mix the packman versions and the openSUSE versions

hey can you help me figure out the commands i need to input to add the files to a playlist…i cant figure it out

Sorry I use amorok not xmms., which is dead simple to manage

Me too.

But if you want something like XMMS, try audacious which is actually “A descendant of XMMS”:
http://audacious-media-player.org/

Packages are available at Packman as well, you should install “audacious-plugins-extra” to have all possible codecs support.
