Note: This happen in all openSUSE/KDE/Plasma version from a long, long time ago
I’ve been using openSUSE + Plasma for years through a proxy that requires username/password. As you know, you have to configure on one side the proxy through YAST and on the other, through Plasma Preferences.
On the other hand, there are applications that require to specify the proxy (Firefox, QMMP, Audacious, …) and others that do not (Chromium, Chrome, etc) because they use Plasma’s proxy. So far, so “good”, although I fail to understand the need to specify (if it is not an option) the need for each application to carry its own proxy settings …
It is inferred that all native Plasma applications, should use the proxy configured through Preferences and, however, it is not so. If I try to download any customizable items that require the Internet, such as:
-
"Get new global themes" (under "Globable Themes").
-
"Get new Plasma styles" (under "Plasma style").
-
"Get new window decorations" (under "Window decorations")
-
"Get new graphic elements" (in "Graphic elements" with <Alt><D> and then <A> on the desktop)
-
etc
Anything involving Internet access from Settings, ends up with a message similar to “Failed to load providers from file https://autoconfig.kde.org/ocs/providers.xml”. I know it’s a proxy related problem because with the same configuration, outside the proxied network, all those functionalities start downloading perfectly. Needless to say that YAST and software downloads work perfectly (but they use the proxy specified in YAST). Moreover, the problem happens since ever, with all versions (Tumbleweed included) of openSUSE.
That said, and although I know it’s complicated for someone to use proxy and even more with authentication, any idea or suggestion about it?
Thanks
