Greetings all.
I Solved the issue by restoring the previous /etc/passwd file in snapper. Once I typed in my password into the KWallet dialogue, the system would hang after a few seconds. If I CTRL+ALT+Backspace the hang contiued. Cold booting did not resolve the issue. I believe I am on snapshot 20170112.
In addition, when I do a zypper dup I get this:
