Hi,
I have an annoying bug (I suppose…) of KDE 4.10 relating to calendar widget:
every time I login to my KDE session, I get this error message: Plasma requires an additional service for this operation (calendar data engine) !!
Trying to install (or what it is trying to do) is always getting some error (as not founding what it needed…)
The thing is the calendar is not working properly (maybe because of this error ?, or it has some other bug ?).
I mean, it show correctly the date but if I try to activate the option for showing holidays in different countries (say I want to have the day’s holiday in France, Germany, USA, UK or Australia), either the “information” or “days off” option, I choose to save the options, but the calendar doesn’t show anything (even on days I know for sure it would have to show ! (like my country’s national day !!)
Anyway … does anyone (maybe even someone from KDE stuff ??) know anything of this request ?
It’s the first KDE version that makes this a problem !!! (I’m using Opensuse since version 7 !!! an never had this sort of bug so far…I always had this option for granted, and always set it up after fresh install, and always it DID worked well … so far; now it doesn’t … I wonder why)

another member posted a similar error yesterday, here…suggest you
join that thread and you and the OP there compare what software you
have installed, how you did that, and what hardware you have…i
mean, there are not thousands of people suddenly with this
problem…but since there are two there is probably a bug
somewhere…maybe it is connected to a particular software mix (what
calendar do you and the other user use? is it current? is it left
over from some previous install? etc etc etc)
Thanx a lot ! This fixed my problem, too (the initial, visual, problem, with the popup window saying plasma would need to install something, and the subsequent problem, with calendar not keeping track of my setting to show holiday for some country I choose).
If someone from the Opensuse team ever reads this thread … maybe the package “kdebase4-workspace-plasma-calendar” would be automatically installed at install time, for this issue to not come to other users as well …

they are not likely to unless and until someone logs a bug in
bugzilla…who (of those who have had and solved this problem) will
do that?
I see there’s already an open bug report about this (more or less exactly this problem: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=803538 ). I already made a comment at that bug report, stating the resolution and this thread to support it…
I will add in here and mention I have had this problem as well. It popped up when the desktop loads after log in. This issue is related to KDE 4.1.03 upgrade, I believe, since I did not see it until I made that update. I have updated three times with 4.1 version of KDE and this is the first time I have have also had this problem. The addition of the ‘base’ rpm also fixed the issue for me. I am using KDE 4.1.03 with SUSE 12.2.
