I have an Intel laptop with TW KDE installed. Yesterday I use a TTL window as advised to zypper dup to Plasma 6. All went fine and rebooted OK. However I have an issue with screen locking or rather coming out of locking. When I move the mouse to get the display to open and allow me to enter the password it takes a few seconds and it appears but as soon as I try to enter anything on the keyboard or move the mouse it disappears and the screen goes black, wait a while and is comes back but I am unable to do anything and I have to either force a power off or try to get it to log out which might work if I leave it to time out. Logging back in it is fine until it locks again. I have done another zypper dup today so it is all up to date.
I also have a minor issue with missing Icons in the bottom panel for Notifications and Bluetooth but both widgets work OK
Any suggestions please as to what might be causing this?
OK so after searching around I have found elsewhere on other distros that x11 can be the cause of the issues with locking/unlocking and so having rebooted my laptop into Wayland I now find the screen locking and unlocking work as expected.
So this is a Plasma6/x11 only issue as far as I can see.
I am still missing those two icons in the taskbar which is annoying but does not affect the operation at all as far as I can tell.
You not only improved that one letter, but also you changed now “window” to “terminal”. Which is more important for the understanding.
I now understand that you used a virtual console and NOT a window in a graphical environment. When that is correct, then you upgraded in a correct way.
They used to put icons in the Plasma theme and Icon themes. I’m just now getting to this problem and I’m looking to see if I can move the icons from the Plasma theme to the system wide icon theme.
Basically, if your icon theme doesn’t have the icon and it was supplied by the Plasma theme, you’ll be missing an icon because the Plasma theme icon will not be used. I figure they’ll update the icon theme to include the missing icons , so I’m not going to put a ton of work into this.
The new solution
For Plasma 6, icons in the Plasma theme will no longer be used even if they’re present. All icons in Plasma now come from the system-wide icon theme.
