Plasma 5 broken after this morning's updates

There were over 300 updates when I logged on this morning. All of the updates installed and I shut down until this afternoon. Upon boot, there are only two open windows from my previous session. No wallpaper, no panel, no kickoff menu, and no NetworkManager. If I log out, all I get is a black screen.

Is there a way I can run icewm until I get this resolved?

I have no such issue
But you should select IceWM at login, assuming you don’t have auto login enabled

Auto login is enabled.

Logout. If your system is so badly hung that you cannot find a “logout”, then use CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE (twice) to crash the session. That should get you to a login screen where you can select Icewm.

That is the keyboard shortcut I was referring to above when I said I logged out. That took me to a black screen.

I’m looking for something similar to ‘rcxdm start’ which starts X and Plasma from text mode. Is there something similar for icewm?

Restart in level 3
become su -
and start yast
From there you can disable auto login, save and reboot

With auto-login disabled, my system boots to a blank screen. At least with auto-login and I can get to a gui with Dolphin and Konsole open. Everything else is black.

After a lot of trial and error, I saw an error message that said “Plasma is unable to start as it could not use OpenGL 2.” I reinstalled the nvidia drivers and everything is back to normal.

Thanks for the help.

In tumbelweed you need to reinstall NVIDIA driver after any kernel update

And also Xorg-server. I didn’t see any of those updates yesterday.
