Pithos Codec Error and Youtube sound volume

So I’m new to OpenSuse and installed pithos but when I launch it I get a missing codec error.
What do I need to install to get this working?

Also, when listen to music from Youtube, I can’t adjust volume with volume control. I need to go into “Configure Audio Volume” settings and adjust Firefox slider to control volume. How can I hover over the taskbar speaker and control volume with mouse wheel?

Thanks

DId you enable the Packman repo? And if so, did you perform ‘zypper dup --from YOURPACKMANREPO’ ?

Hi Knurpht,
I did not. I just downloaded Pithos from the Install/Remove Software. Which repo do I need to enable? So is Packman the repo I need to enable?

Would you know which repo I need to enable to install Intellij?
Thanks

At the top of this Multimedia section there are several “sticky” threads, like Multimedia Guide for openSUSE 42.3. They are there so they can be found easy by all that visit the Multimedia section.

AFAIK all you should know/do th get your multimedia running at openSUSE is there.

So can you explain how OpenSuse’s repos work?
I’ve added the nvidia and packman repos to my list, will the core (official) packages get updated from these repos as well or will only the packages installed from the nvidia and packman repos?

Adding a repo to your repo list only means that you can then install software packages from it.
In the case of Packman you have to do the famous “Vendor switch” to get those packages that you have from the standard OSS repo, replaced by the equivalent ones from Packman.

zypper dup --from <Packman>

(where is the identification of your Packman repo, either the number, the name or the alias. See you repo list with zypper lr -d).

As you have Tumbleweed, you update your system on a regular base with

zypper dup

On Tumbleweed, that includes the option --no-vendorchange and thus Packman packages will only be updated by newer Packman packages. And that is what you most probably want.

Thanks for the explaination!
So I would make the assumption that the Packman and Nvidia repos are trusted repos and not have to worry about malicious code?

Yes, otherwise we would not make these available for openSUSE. FWIW openSUSE has very strict policies re. unmaintained software or binary software. Re. NVIDIA there is no other solution than the current ones until NVIDIA decides to go fully open source and change their licenses. Which might happen around 2049, but maybe not even then  .

A near 100% of us uses Packman for years.

And most Nvidia owners use, or have used the Nvidia repo.

Awesome!! I’ve always overlooked OpenSuse in the past but decided to give it a try and really liking it. Very poilshed distro.
Thanks guys for the help and I will be reading the Sticky’s to get more familiar with OpenSuse.

Don’t forget to enjoy and have fun. And thanks for giving me an opportunity to repost our chairman’s twitter post from somewhere in the past:
