Pitho

How do I get Pithos to work? I am new to OpenSUSE 15.0. Tried some searches and found various answers or commands to do this centering around the packman repos.

linux64:~ # zypper if pithos

Pithos is a native Pandora Radio client for Linux. It's much more
lightweight than the Pandora.com web client, and integrates with desktop
features such as media keys, notifications, and the sound menu.

linux64:~ #

So as root:

zypper install pithos

Sorry. I was not detailed enough. Pithos is intalled, but won’t play. I get what I think is the expected “Codec installation falied” message. I assume codecs must be installed. Searches point to the Packman repos. One search points to the One Click method or command line. Would this be the route to take? This would would not change the normal repos openSUSE normally uses would it?

When you want multi-media running without problems on your system, you should do the vendor switch to Packman" as explained in the sticky threads at the top of the multi-media subforums (the one you strated your thread in).

E.g. with YaST:

To add the Packman repo:
YaST > Software > Repositories Management. Then the Add button below. Choose Community Repositories in the next screen and click Next. Select Packman from the list shown and click OK. The Packman repo will now be added to your list of subscribed repositories.

To do the Vendor switch:
YaST > Software Management, then from the View menu choose Repositories. Then in the list of repos, select Packman. At right, above the list of Packages there is a line saying something like: Switch system packages to … Click on the underlined part and continue low-right.

Thank you. Now after starting Pithos, I give my password, the i get "an application access to the keyring but is locked. I don’t know what this is.

Using Gnome?

Using the default KDE.

This means, gnome-keyring is being started. Use the software-manager to remove and lock them or do

sudo zypper rm gnome-keyring*
sudo zypper al gnome-keyring

That was a no go. After using the commands. I re-booted and tried Pithos again. I get a new message stating
“The name org.freedesktop.secrets was not provided by any .service files. You need to install a service such as gnome-keyring.” Side question, does pithos install the gnome-keyring? Would using Kwallet resolve this?

This may be my final post in this string. It appears that Pithos just may not play well with KDE. SO I am thinking of removing it. So final question would be as in previous post, does pithos install the gnome-keyring, If not, then is it part of the openSUSE KDE version, and re-install it?

Hi
As a GNOME application, it will recommend, force the re-install of pithos and no recommends so it doesn’t implement gnome-keyring;

zypper in --no-recommends -f pithos

Also look down in ~/.local/share/keyrings/ what files are present, I have no idea what KDE does and what could be removed (or is there a KDE keyring editor?)…

Final post . Thanks all for your responses. ~/.local/share/keyrings/ appears to have the gnome keyrings. Not going to waste everyone’s time on this. Just going to uninstall Pithos. Its no be big deal. I may do some more searches on my own. Thanks again, I really appreciated all of your time.

Hi
:frowning: you should give it another whirl, it’s a good application, but I’m biased as the original packager for openSUSE  not having the keyring installed should (in theory) help…
