One of banks needs Silverlight in its web app. Is it safe to use pipeligght for this purpose?
I’d say so if it works with the site.

Well, pipelight is Silverlight run through WINE, so it’s going to be as
safe as it would be on Windows. “Safe” is a relative term, though, so
really, it depends on whether or not your bank has implemented
appropriate security measures and controls on their end, and if you
practice safe browsing practices on your end. WINE is generally harder
to compromise than native Windows, because not all malware/viruses that
are spread by Windows systems will run properly on WINE, so in some
instances, pipelight/WINE might be considered a little safer than running
natively on Windows (that’s not necessarily a proven fact, but rather a
well-educated guess based on knowledge of how WINE works).

If you are concerned about how safe pipelight is, I think you should ask in the #pipelight IRC channel (freenode server), they had an interesting discussion just yesterday about it while I was lurking in there. The real question to ask though, is why does the bank make use of silverlight.
wow!!! seriously?
I can’t believe any bank would be that stupid.
Any bank that did this kind of thing is a bank I’d steer clear of.
Didn’t Microsoft stop development of silverlight?
Pretty sure they have

Yep, I recall that they pretty much are discontinuing the majority
of .NET development technologies - I remember thinking it odd, with the
suggestion made a month or so ago (as I recall) that they might be
interested in acquiring Xamarin.

Thank you for all the answers.
I didn’t want to post the bank name not to do any advertisement for it. If I log into a demo account there are various windows for trading, and one of them to show data needs silverlight. After installing it the graph started to show data and not just the picture to install Silverlight.
Are there any logs for this pipelight channel on irc?
By the way - I’m using pipelight from Richard Bos (rbos). I wonder why there are 3 versions for Tumbleweed?

In different repos? Different people build them, and if you look at the
full list of repos, you’ll see people’s home repos.
I use the one built by knurpht - since he’s a member of staff here, I
trust him.

rbos is the one the pipelight guide suggests to use
(http://fds-team.de/cms/pipelight-installation.html#section_1_4) but you
can use any one of them, just make sure you trust whichever repo you use.
As for logs I have asked and there are no public ones available.

Ok - how can I change the pipelight I use to knurpht as I like your way of thinking
At the moment there seems to be a build error on the repo.
But to add it just do:
zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/Knurpht:/pipelight/openSUSE_13.1/home:Knurpht:pipelight.repo
zypper dup --from home:Knurpht:pipelight
zypper rr home_rbos_pipelight
zypper ref && zypper up

At the moment, the build service is offline due to a storage subsystem
issue.

Hi
OBS came back about 13:30 CDT today
Ok. I did the commands but got a lot of informations and it didn’t work (my system has an other language and it was to hard for me to translate it into English). I had to remove rbos by hand from Yast.
Now when I look at my repos for Tumbleweed and pipelight I have:

Should I remove any of those just to have Tumbleweed and silverlight/pipelight (I added Libre office by hand and want it to stay)?
What about this repo for 13.1?
How to switch from rbos pipelight to Knurpht pipelight?
zypper dup --from home:Knurpht:pipelight
didn’t change anything.
No please do tell us the bank name so we can complain to them for using such awful technology for banking.
They should be shot, I would say aim for the brain but I dont think anything would be there.rotfl!
It was my mistake, the repos name is different, sorry.
zypper dup --from home_Knurpht_pipelight
Could someone with Tumbleweed and pipelight help wih the repos list? Is it ok to have a repo from 13.1 as I have? Is it something connected with pipelight?
I would say you are likely good but there is a repo for Tumbleweed on the FDS-team website. If you go to the website and follow the directions its all there.
http://fds-team.de/cms/pipelight-installation.html#section_1_4
I did it but I think that this is not the case here
