Pidgin / Empathy - Unable to validate certificate

Can’t connect anymore with Pidgin on ICQ.
It used to work before without any problems.
Pidgin reports error “Unable to validate certificate”
Tried Empathy and it can’t connect either, doesn’t say why though.

Maybe it’s factory related but I’m not sure, it worked when I had 13.1 and then upgraded to factory.
This time with straight factory iso this is happening.

Any ideas ?

Working fine after today’s big update, I think I saw one package named certificates, can’t remember the name, anyway it’s working now

Wait. When you use factory you must use the factory forum for all
questions. Called here the “beta” forum.

This is probably bug 895350. I think it was fixed today, though I have not yet applied today’s updates.

Will be moved to Pre-release/Beta and is CLOSED for the moment.

Moved from Applications and open again.

Yeah, definitely fixed, it was one of these packages that was missing and needed for openssl :
ca-certificates
ca-certificates-mozilla
mozilla-nss-certs

my guess is this one : ca-certificates-mozilla (CA certificates for OpenSSL)

I’m not completely sure of the details.

As best I understand it, there was a switch from using the mozilla software to using “openssl” and “gnutls” for managing certitificates. Unfortunately, “openssl” seems to not properly recognize the newer extended support certificates. Or, more accurately, it does not recognize the CA certificate that is used to sign the newer extended support certificates.

The fix was to go back to using the mozilla software.

I was seeing the problem with “rekonq” and “konqueror” browsers. I was getting multiple certificate warnings for sites that should not give warnings.

After yesterdays update, those warning have gone away, so it looks as if everything is working as it should (regarding certificates).
