Pidgin behind proxy (Possibly IM ports Blocked)

Hello guys,

I am in an university residence and all Internet goes through a proxy. But if I try to use Pidgin it says that there an error in the connection (I think that the ports for IM are blocked).

How can I do for use Pidgin behind this proxy? I am using Opensuse 11.2 and Firefox, Amarok, etc work well, but pidgin don’t

Moreover once I read that exist a program called proxychain which can tunneling connection through http? Is that possible? ProxyChains - TCP and DNS through proxy server. HTTP and SOCKS

Thanks in advance for all your help
Bye

Which protocol are you using? For example, AIM, Jabber, Google Talk, IRC,
ICQ, etc.? Also have you tried setting up Pidgin to use the proxy server?
Under Tools: Preferences: Network is a Configure Proxy button on my
system which I have not tried (no need) but may be helpful to you.

Good luck.
