Hello, I just went to see one of my favorite bands last night and I had my brother take a picture of me and the bassist, and I really like the picture that was taken, the only problem is that it was taken on my Samsung R451C which doesn’t have the best image quality and no flash. (it was rather dark in the venue) Now my question, what is the best photo editing software for the job? I have tried GIMP and couldn’t get the results I wanted (the image is very pixelated and an off-color all around) I see there is an option to pixelate an image but none to de-pixelate it…and as I really know nothing about this sort of thing, want something thats going to give me a good quality image with relative ease…(I know what I have to work with I just think that it can be much better than what GIMP has given me) Thanks
My understanding is GIMP is the best available for open source.
Gimp works well for me.
Remember you can’t make a silk purse from a sows ear.
You could always try Picasa, but I don’t thinks even close to Gimp
+1 for GIMP
the only way to begin with a fuzzy badly focused/fuzzy,
dark/underexposed, low quality photo is to hand it to a computer
technician in a Hollywood production and say: “Can you enhance this
some?” and soon it is a perfect photo…you can even read the license
numbers on the get-away car…
that can only be done in make-believe…
it is impossible to (as another here already said) make a silk purse
out from a sows ear using any computer i’ve ever seen…

When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
Yes I understand this…I guess the question now is what tools should I look at to smooth out the pixels? I’m not very adept to photo editing as I’ve always had the option to just take the picture again. Thanks
Gimp is a top notch Graphics editing software package only second to Adobe Photoshop and Gimp can do thing that Photoshop cant. If you can get it done in Gimp then try some of the scripts or plug-ins from the Gimp site. GIMP Plugin Registry | A repository of optional extensions for the GIMP.
There’s a alot out there so it might take you a little while to find the one you want. A lot of people put their plug-ins and scripts out on this site.
Thanks I’ll give that a try
