Phonon Categories

Hey all,

Seems like a strange issue, but I cannot find any documentation anywhere…

Where can I figure out what Phonon uses to determine if an app falls into one of its categories for audio device assignment.

For example, how/where does it look to know Amarok is a Music app. What constitutes a “Communication” app?

My goal is to add WINE to the “Games” category and direct that output to a USB headset. It works fine for some games that are KDE based, but not all… this makes me think it must be looking for some list somewhere or something.

I know I could easily set the output device with Pulseaudio, but Pulse and WINE have a lot of issues together so I am trying to avoid it.

Thanks,

Dave

I think you will find out more by looking around the net. Here are some interesting finds I made:

Thank You,

I appreciate the response, nothing there that I could find on the subject. I did spend a good bit of time searching around to no avail. I cannot imagine I am the first one to ask, “Hey… what does it lump into this category?” But hey… who knows.

Anyway… thanks again.

It is possible someone might post the right answer here, but I think I would keep looking on the net. You just never know what you might find and good luck.

Thank You,

the thing here is that this is an openSUSE forum…there may well be
some folks around here with the Phonon/KDE/Pulseaudio/WINE/game
expertise who can answer your question better than this:

maybe you can find some help (there is a “Help” button) in open Personal
Settings - Configure Desktop > Common Appearance and Behavior > File
Associations

on the other hand, i’m not the person with sufficient knowledge of
Phonon/KDE/Pulseaudio/WINE/game to actually answer your question…

i think you are gonna have to accept James’ hint, and find a Phonon
developer…perhaps there is a way to find a guru or two at
http://phonon.kde.org/

You guys are funny…

Of course this isn’t the ONLY place I will ask about it, but this certainly seems like A place I should ask about it.

Thanks again for the responses, though… really.
