All boot customization, console logo and splash, grub menu is still there, disappears after the first boot.
This even happens with a newly created jeos appliance running in test drive.
Any ideas anyone?

Did you save off the customization and then apply it to the appliance
after exiting test drive?
That’s how you normally have to do this.
