I am completely new with Linux, and so, after a little reading - I had an Idea to start somewhere…
I downloaded OpenSuse Leap 42.1 installation disk via torrent file…
burnt it into DVD - although, I didn’t had 4.7 DVD at home, so I still burned it on 8.5 GB DVD…
Installation - started - nicely - I filled all steps… Until the Step - Installation … Warming Up… >> and reaching 9% - it jumped up, showed black with white ok…ok… >> and started all the steps and checks of installation from beginning…
I didn’t know if such behaviour is expected or not… I expected that’s the way it is partitioning my Hard Drive…but may be no…
…so, the same cycle reapeated some 7-8 times… always reaching 9% installation and starting again…
Now - I quit and and I am back in my win 7 part - now I have new Parts of My Hard Drive… but they are empty…
I didn’t check the sums, but I checked the disc as cd/dvd drive could read it and open content in folder;
Space provided - the Installation Disc calculated it itself - it created a new partition of 69 GB , and divided it again to 40 / 27 and 2 GB swap spaces…
There is a media check option to make sure it is good.
Or possibly try a USB media? if your machine is good for that. I find it much more reliable.
Personally I would manage the partitioning manually, but that may be beyond your Linux knowhow.
UEFI is a more recent form of BIOS
MBR means Master Boot Record and refers to the HDD partition table
Basically there is lots we don’t know about your machine that could influence how we advise.
Most of all we need to know if it’s a modern UEFI motherboard, if the HDD is MBR or GPT
And ideally what the partition layout is
