pencil won't start

Pencil is an animation/drawing software for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux.
It lets you create traditional hand-drawn animation (cartoon) using both .

I am getting this error :

anton@linux-sd6c:~> pencil

Object::connect: No such signal ToolSet::rmClick()
Object::connect: No such signal ToolSet::playClick()
Object::connect: No such signal ToolSet::fpsClick(int)

did you install using YaST? and, YaST successfully resolve all
dependencies, or did it throw errors? if so, did you resolve those
errors or click ignore/install anyway (or similar)?

palladium

Installed pencil 0.4.4b for opensuse 11.2 from the site Software.openSUSE.org with one click Yast.

No errors during install

Because pencil is not starting by clicking on the pencil icon I tried to start it
in Konsole to see what is going wrong.

i’m out of ideas, sorry…

except, perhaps you should seek and ask a Linux user (or pencil
developer) at http://lesstooges.free.fr/pencil/forum/

(rather than hope to find a ‘pencil’ user here)

maybe they are aware of the problem you encountered and have a
solution, work around, bug fix…whatever…

do you know if the version of pencil you tried works on any other
linux distro, or openSUSE version, or ??

wait! 0.4 is the oldest available on that page…why not try the newer
pencil-1.0.6-1.1

maybe your exact problem is solved in the more recent version.

palladium

Because pencil-1.0.6-1.1 is an opensource tool
for making diagrams that is not the same application.

I need this one :

Pencil - a traditional 2D animation software

I submitted Bug 569537
http://en.opensuse.org/Submitting_Bug_Reports

ah…i can read, but didn’t…sorry!

palladium

still no solution

i don’t think there are ever any developers here…and, since those
are the only ones who can fix the bug…well, you are just making
noise here…if you wanna try to influence the developers you have to
make noise where they are

i wonder if you saw and reacted to the note on this page
http://en.opensuse.org/Submitting_Bug_Reports#Searching_for_bugs which
says:

“Bugzilla is no replacement for support. Before reporting a bug, make
sure that it is really a bug. If in doubt, discuss it on the mailing
lists first (opensuse-factory or opensuse).”

and, if you took that step? because the mailing list is where the
developers hang out…i think what you need to do is coax one into
installing the software and trying to start it…

Today I have installed pencil the same way that Anton has. Pencil starts up fine. :slight_smile:
