Just a thought - open the sound mixer, select channels and drag across the ‘master front’ and take the tick out of ‘mute’
This is about system-beeps, right? There should be a slider in your mixer called ‘beep’ or likewise. In KMix (KDEs mixer app) this slider is disabled by default and has to be added first via the settings.
I tried with master front and also with beep but I didn’t work.
I have the same problem on my netbook, Asus 1000H, with opensuse 11.3; but it’s not always like this. Sometimes i can have the speaker working but sometimes just the headset works.
Also I have the same problem on my openSUSE 11.2. Here is the output of my alsa-info.sh : http://pastebin.com/kcfa2Aqq

That’s a blessing. I’ve just disabled my pc speaker (distinct from sound hardware) with ‘blacklist pcspkr’. Sytem event sounds are annoying IMHO.
my pc speaker does not function too.
I have set down in KMix, but it does not work either!
In terminal, I type
> xset b on
> xset b 100
But the speaker does not work!
