PCMCIA UMTS card not recognized as network interface

Hi there,

I ran into some trouble with my QUALCOMM 3G CDMA card I got from Vodafone the other day.
The card itself is not the problem as umtsmon readily accepts it and even claims to
successfully connect to the network.

The only trouble is that openSUSE 11.2 isn’t prepared to recognize this connection as
network-connection and keeps telling me that at the moment there would be no way I could see
the website requested.

I can’t even register it as network device in YaST.

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers,
Rob

what does

/sbin/lspci

and

lsusb
yield?

If you type those commands into a terminal;

a USB modem from Vodafone would be configured thus:

from the section half-way down that says

“Create a mobile broadband connection …”

PHARscape | NetworkManager 0.7.0 and 3G WWAN Modems How-To

Which country are you in?

hmmmmmmmmmm

suspect you are into the modeswitch area: where the device is setup and recognised as a CD-ROM and you have to switch it; but let’s see what lspci and lsusb give

I’m on business trip till Friday Dec. 4th.

yield.
I’ll let you know.
