PCIe NEC Chipset USB 3.0 2 PORTS Card BT-PEU310

Does anyone have this card working and does it work well for large data transfers?

The only linux comparability report I have come across states that this Nec chip-set fails on transfers over 1 gig. (Fedora user forums)

Another site states that this was one of the first chipsets supported in the linux kernel, usually that is a good thing.

USB 3.0 works with openSUSE. There is an issue with the kernel version in openSUSE 11.3 (2.6.34) that prevents USB 3.0 drives from being mounted from your fstab file. Further, USB 3.0 drives are not yet native to any PC BIOS’ and so you can not boot from or put ANY of the openSUSE folders on it required when openSUSE first starts (like /, SWAP or /home). With a kernel update (to say 2.6.37), it can be mounted from your fstab file and used for data, multimedia or Windows files. If you are interested in updating your kernel version in openSUSE 11.3, take a look at message #17 here:

S.A.K.C. - SUSE Automated Kernel Compiler - Version 2.00

First, before using SAKC, You must go into YaST / Software Management, switch to the View of Patterns and select Base Development, C++ and Kernel Development to be installed in order to compile your own kernel version. SAKC works very well and does not remove any kernel versions loaded from YaST.

Thank You,
